PHYLLOSTACHYS NIGRA
HENON
Hardy to -0 degrees F. Sixty feet maximum height, 3 ½" diameter
culms. Henon is one of the most widely used bamboo for interiors today. Among
the hardiest and most handsome of all the Phyllostachids, it is by far our top
choice for all interior bamboo installations. Henon bamboo is a graceful giant,
thin walled and strong. Looking upward from within the clump, one sees a canopy
of green, willowy foliage supported on tall, slender pillars. Henon has been proven
hardy and adaptable to seemingly intolerable environments for plants. Available
now: See price list for sizes.

PHYLLOSTACHYS AUREA
Twenty Seven feet maximum height, 1 5/8" diameter culms. Also
known as "Phoenix" bamboo or "Golden bamboo." The Latin term "Golden" is misleading
since the canes are usually more green than gold, especially if grown in shade.
The short, swollen internodes and zigzag basal nodes of Aurea are a striking characteristic
of the species. The culms taper from a stout base to a slender tip, beginning
as bright green, aging to a pale gold. Aurea is a hardy bamboo known to have survived
temperatures below -20 F. Aurea, unlike most bamboos, can be trimmed to any height
to form a dense hedge. Branching and foliage begin near the ground. Available
now: See
price list for sizes.

PHYLLOSTACHYS
AUREOSULCATA
Forty five feet maximum height, 1 ½ " diameter culms. Green culms
with yellow grooves and attractive foliage. Some culms grow in zigzag manner.
Aureosulcata is a beautiful bamboo that is extremely cold hardy to -15 F. There
are numerous exterior groves of this unusual bamboo growing in northern climates
including the west front of the U.S. Capital Building in Washington, D.C. Available
now: See
price list for sizes.

PHYLLOSTACHYS BAMBUSOIDES
"Slender Crookstem" grows to a maximum height of forty eight feet,
2 ½" culms. Hardy to 0 degrees F. Many culms of this cultivar are curved near
the base, and are usually more slender than most of the species. Dark green foliage,
and green canes, likes full sun. Available now. See
price list for sizes.

PHYLLOSTACHYS AUREO
VARIEGATA
Forty feet maximum height, 2 ¾" culms. Hardy to 0 degrees F. 1"
X 6" leaves with variegation of yellow and green. Appearance similar to Phyllostachys
Elegans, except leaves are larger and not as hairy on the lower surface. Available
now: See
price list for sizes.

PHYLLOSTACHYS PUBESCENS
Also called "Noble Bamboo, Moso Bamboo, Hairy Bamboo, or Phyllostachys
Edulis. Fifty feet maximum height with 3" culms in the US, but in China this giant
can reach eighty five feet, with 10" culms. 0 degrees F. minimum temperature.
Culm nodes near the base have only one nodal ridge. Immature plants have large
young leaves with tufts of black hairs at the base of each leaf. Really nice bamboo.
